Announcing the Grand Opening of the Jack G. Koontz Head Start Center
The Yadkin Valley Economic Development District, Incorporated (YVEDDI) Head Start Program held the Grand Opening Celebration of the Jack G. Koontz Head Start Center at 7131 NC Highway 801 South, Mocksville, NC on Friday,
January 6, 2011.
This new child development facility can serve up to 36 preschool children in 2 classrooms. Services will exemplify the true spirit of collaboration in a blended approach utilizing funds from Head Start, NCPK, and the local county to deliver the deepest quality of services! Children and families served here will be the neediest of the needy, meeting 100% of the Poverty Index Guidelines, and will include children who are homeless or have special needs. In addition to a structured educational setting that aligns with school readiness goals, service delivery will include health, mental health, dental, social services, transportation, and a comprehensive parent involvement program.
YVEDDI actually owns the facility, as compared to renting from landlords in many other locations. Ownership will afford YVEDDI the opportunity to build partial equity/assets in the building, avoiding rent or lease payments. The new center will provide a more positive learning environment for children, will save money, and at the same time properly maintain the property in a more cost efficient manner. Staff and parents are extremely excited with the renovations taking place and are ecstatic about serving children in the “first ever” YVEDDI owned facility designed specifically for young children, therefore, promoting the highest quality educational opportunities.
Additionally, we are thrilled to be naming this center after our YVEDDI Board Chair, Jack G. Koontz, whose tireless contributions and dedication helped to make this project possible.

LOCAL POST SPREADS CHRISTMAS CHEER
On Tuesday, December 13th
Santa and his trusty elf
made a surprise appearance
distributing gifts to local Head Start children
throughout Yadkin County
All of this made possible thanks to the fundraising efforts of
Post 505 and Post 336 Legion Riders
With funds raised, 90 gifts were wrapped and delivered just in time for the Christmas break from school
While visiting each classroom students were
given an opportunity to sit on Santa’s knee
and tell them what they would like for Christmas
The joys of their gifts were evidenced by
the smiles of the children's faces
as they opened their gifts
